This map shows the amount of forest land by percentage in every country. The world forest map is part of the Global Forest Resource Assessment by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
A handful of countries have mostly forested land, with a proportion of 71 to 100 percent. These countries include:
- Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana (South America)
- Liberia, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea (Africa)
- Bhutan, Laos, and Papua New Guinea (Asia and the Pacific)
Forest land is also dominant in many nations and continents, albeit with a slightly lower proportion:
- North America
- Most of South America
- Southern Africa
- Most of mainland Europe
- Russia (Europe/Asia)
- Southeast Asia
- South Korea and Japan (Asia)
The world’s forests are also varying in type, with the prominent ones including temperate deciduous, coniferous, needleleaf, and broadleaf. Each type is spread in different parts of the world.
