Shown above is the map of Brazil and how dense the population is in each city, as illustrated by Visual Capitalist based on the country’s population data from WorldPop, among others.
Green spikes on the map mark each city’s population density. This means that an area has a high population density if it has tall green spikes.
What Brazilian Cities Are The Most Populated?
The city of São Paulo (which means Saint Paul in Portuguese) is the country’s most populated city, with over 12 million inhabitants.
Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in terms of population with 6 million people living in it. The nation’s capital, Brasília, rounds up the top 3, with 2.8 million inhabitants.
São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are also the top two most densely populated cities in the Portuguese-speaking nation, at 7,159 people and 5,175 people per square kilometer, respectively.
It can be noted that Brazil’s densely populated areas are those located in the central and eastern parts of the country, with the country’s southeast making up approximately 40% of its population.
