
The maps above are those of Atlantic City and Ventnor City in New Jersey, United States. These cities are largely influential in the American version of the board game Monopoly.
Most of the avenues featured in the game are in Atlantic City. Ventnor Avenue, Marvin Gardens, and part of Boardwalk are located in Ventnor City.
Atlas Obscura says that Atlantic City was chosen in 1935 by the game’s original creators, the Parker Brothers, for its booming economy. While the city’s situation today is far from what it was back then, the concepts of Monopoly still apply in the city’s goings-on, says the city mayor in a 2015 interview with the Associated Press.
