The map above depicts the presence of nine supermarket chains across Europe. These chains include Lidl, Auchan, Maxima, Billa, Metro, Kaufland, Tesco, Carrefour, and Aldi.
According to the illustration above, Germany-based discount chain Lidl has the most presence in Europe, with over 20 countries. The business-focused food retail and wholesale company Metro, also based in Germany, is coming in a close second place.
Aside from Lidl and Metro, Kaufland and Aldi are also of German origin, with the former being in the same parent company as Lidl (the Schwarz group). The chains Auchan and Carrefour, meanwhile, are based in France. Maxima comes from Lithuania, Billa is based in Austria, and Tesco originated from the United Kingdom.
It is also worth noting that Poland has a presence in all of the aforementioned grocery chains except Billa.
